La banda es un proyecto de Lionel Padrevecchi junto a su gran amigo Zakk Wylde guitarrista del grupo de Ozzy Osbourne.

En 1992, Ozzy, tras terminar el No More Tears tour, en el cuál Zakk dejó, para formar su solo banda Pride Glory, combinando un rock sureño melódico potente con heavy metal. En 1994 Ozzy decidió que debería dejar atrás el descanso, y las numerosas sesiones para Ozmmosis tomaron lugar. Alrededor de este tiempo, Zakk ofreció también un hueco con la guitarra en Guns N' Roses tras la salida de Izzy Stradlin de ésta y estuvo un duro tiempo decidiendo, si hacer la gira con Ozzy o unirse a Guns N' Roses. Ningún proyecto fue eliminado y esto le dio a Wylde la oportunidad para grabar su propio álbum que fue sólo acústico, Book Of Shadows. Después de un limitado éxito comercial con Book of the Shadows, en 1998, Zakk y el baterista Phil Ondich formaron Black Label Society y grabaron su álbum de debut `Sonic Brew`. Nick Catasnese ha sido el guitarra rítmica de Zakk banda desde la gira de Book Of Shadows. Craig Numencher ha estado en la batería desde el álbum 1919 Eternal, realizado en 2001, siguiendo la salida de Phil Ondich.

Black Label Society encabezó el cartel en el segundo escenario de este año del Ozzfest US. Todas las entradas fueron vendidas en Estados Unidos y la Banda tocó en Australia y Nueva Zelanda a finales de 2006 y principios de 2007. La propuesta mantenida con Uk coimpanás fueron canceladas entre los rumores de que Zakk estaba yendo en gira con Ozzy, aún no había noticias de lo que se estaba desarrollando tanto el 3 de enero de 2007. La web Oficial sólo cita /improvistos de los compromisos de US como causa de la cancelación. Existen otros rumores de las causas, pero ninguno de ellos puede ser validado.

Este año lanzaron su ultimo disco llamado Skullage.

As I Lay Dying fue formado en 2001 por el vocalista Tim Lambesis luego de dejar la banda "Society's Finest" donde tocaba la guitarra. Como un trío con Evan White y el baterista Jordan Mancino comenzaron a tocar y luego de completar el grupo fueron contratados por la discográfica Pluto Records. "Beneath the Encasing of Ashes" fue grabado en junio de ese mismo año. Es claro que su sonido característico sería encontrado en futuros lanzamientos.

Para 2003 ya habían renunciado a Pluto Records y serían contratados más tarde por Metal Blade Records para en julio de 2003 grabar en los estudios Big Fish con Steve Russel "Frail Words Collapse", su segundo LP. El álbum dio popularidad a As I Lay Dying, cuyos videos para los singles de 94 Hours y Forever, aparecieron por un largo tiempo en el programa de televisión de MTV2 "Headbanger's Ball". "Frail Words Collapse" se colocó en las listas de Billboard en el puesto 30 con más de 250.000 copias vendidas.

En junio de 2005 sale "Shadows Are Security", que se destaca por la presencia de más cantidad de "voces limpias", hechas por Clint Norris, ex-bajista de la banda, llegando a cantar versos enteros. Los videos para los singles Through Struggle, Confined y The Darkest Nights también recibieron bastante difusión. Casualmente, estas tres canciones son las únicas del álbum que cuentan con coros de voces limpias.

Su último trabajo, el disco "An Ocean Between Us", fue lanzado en agosto de 2007. Este disco presenta muchas más canciones que son cantadas por el nuevo bajista Josh Gilbert en forma limpia (de hecho, sólo 3, sin contar instrumentales, son cantadas en su totalidad por Tim Lambesis), la inclusión de pianos y organos en "This Is Who We Are", una tendencia, aunque mínima, hacia el thrash metal en canciones como "Within Destruction" y "Comfort Betrays", y solos en "The Sound Of Truth" cumplen con las previas palabras del vocalista: "Para los chicos que siguen nuestra banda y creen saber qué esperar de nosotros, los invito a escuchar este álbum con una mente abierta". El álbum en general fue recibido con buenas críticas, y logró debutar en Billboard en el puesto 8, con casi 40,000 copias vendidas en todo el mundo.
